With QUADRA Energy, TotalEnergies is acquiring a market leader in the direct marketing of renewable energies in Germany. For AWS, the transaction means, on the one hand, ensuring the further growth of QUADRA Energy and, on the other hand, a consistent focus on supporting the market activities of the wind turbine manufacturer ENERCON as the foundation's core company. ENERCON is to remain a leading plant manufacturer in the international wind market and continue and further develop a strategic partnership with QUADRA Energy and TotalEnergies in the future. The transaction is still subject to the approval of the relevant authorities.

BDO advised on the transaction with multidisciplinary expertise from a corporate finance team specialising in the energy sector, led by André Horn, and a team from the transaction tax division, led by Dr Michael Brauer.

QUADRA Energy is one of the few wholly green energy supply companies in Germany. The company was founded in 2012 and specialises in the direct marketing of renewable electricity from wind and solar energy and the wholesale of green electricity. It pools around 5,000 wind and solar plants with an installed capacity of approx. 9,000 MW in a ‘virtual power plant’ and is thus responsible for around 16 TWh of green electricity annually. Since 2021, QUADRA Energy has also offered fixed-price power purchase agreements (PPAs) for renewable electricity for both producers and large consumers or resellers.

TotalEnergies is a French energy company with a global presence and more than 100,000 employees that produces and markets energy. As part of its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, TotalEnergies is building a competitive portfolio of renewable (solar, onshore and offshore wind) and flexible (CCGT, storage) assets. In 2022, TotalEnergies generated more than 33 TWh of electricity and had 17 GW of gross renewable electricity generation capacity.
